List of Button Sounds (Arcade)

Introduction

• Button sounds are the sound effects that play every time a note button (△□×○) is pressed.
• Default button sounds differ among songs. As of ver.A REV1, button sounds can be customized from DIVA.NET.
• By touching the "ボタン音ON/OFF" (Button Sound ON/OFF) icon on the right side of the game touchscreen, button sounds can be toggled on or off temporarily.
• If button sounds have been customized on DIVA.NET, the ボタン音ON/OFF button will be surrounded by a red border indicating that customized button sounds are active.

Button Sounds on DIVA.NET
The following button sounds can be customized on DIVA.NET. They are given in the same order as in the menu.

• ボタン音A (Button Sound A)
  • Tambourine. This could be considered the most standard sound for a rhythm game.
• ボタン音B (Button Sound B)
  • Stronger beat than Button Sound A.
• ボタン音C (Button Sound C)
  • Hi-hat with little trailing. Crisp.
• ボタン音D (Button Sound D)
  • Cymbals. The trailing sound gives it a jazz feel.
• ボタン音E (Button Sound E)
  • Crash cymbals.
• ハイハットA (Hi-hat A)
  • Hi-hat with almost no trailing.
• ハイハットB (Hi-hat B)
  • Lower pitch than Hi-hat A.
• 大太鼓 (Big Taiko)
  • Cross between taiko and timpani. Suitable for songs with a Japanese feel.
• ウッドブロックA (Woodblock A)
  • Wooden fish. Very light button sound.
• ウッドブロックB (Woodblock B)
  • Higher pitch than Woodblock A.
• スティック (Stick)
  • Drumstick being hit. The sound is light and individual notes tend to stick together. On Japanese-style or fast songs, this sounds like wooden clappers in a festival and is quite a good combination.
• タンバリン (Tambourine)
  • Hitting the center of the tambourine produces this all-purpose sound.
• 鈴 (Bell)
  • Handbell. The note trails for a while so it is suitable for ballads.
• クラップ (Clap)
  • A hand clap. The impact is strong and so suits techno or rock songs more.
• ボタン音F (Button Sound F)
  • Cross between tambourine and synth drum.
• ボタン音G (Button Sound G)
  • Castanet. Sharp feel for rock songs.
• ボタン音H (Button Sound H)
  • Very similar to the Bell button sound. Some say it also sounds like shaking a tambourine.
• ボタン音I (Button Sound I)
  • Cymbals. Sounds like Button Sound D being trimmed of the trailing sound. The result sounds clipped and peculiar.

Changes on ver.A REV3
When REV3 became operational on 2011/10/27, all button sounds were switched over to DIVA 2nd format. The move was unpopular and resulted in all button sounds being restored to their original format with ver.A REV3.1 and SEGA issuing a statement on their blog.
The most noticeable changes were to the Big Taiko, Tambourine, and Hi-hat B. The Big Taiko especially became a pure synth drum and was no longer suitable for Japanese-style songs until the restoration.
